Reddit Warnings
Common pitfalls the community warns about repeatedly. Ignore these at your own risk.
Chase 5/24 Rule
Chase will deny most applications if you have opened 5 or more personal credit cards (across ALL issuers) in the past 24 months. Plan your Chase apps first before getting cards from other issuers.
Amex Lifetime Rule
Amex generally limits welcome bonuses to once per card per lifetime. If you had an Amex Gold 10 years ago, you may not get the welcome bonus again. Check your history before applying.
Annual Fee Inflation
Issuers have been raising annual fees aggressively (Amex Platinum went from $550 to $895 in a few years). Always re-evaluate whether a card's benefits still exceed its cost each year.
Always Pay in Full
Credit card interest rates are 20-30% APR. Carrying a balance wipes out any rewards you earn. If you cannot pay your statement balance in full every month, rewards cards are not for you yet.
